The Index of Face..???

One of the often heard, familiar proverb in English is “Face is the index of mind” which can be taken as face depicts the real intention of one’s thought .Not protruding too much, there may be exceptions but now the question is “What is the index of face..??” A trivial question, huh. ??

In my point of view, nevertheless it’s the “Moustache and beard”, especially for the males. Difference of opinion will be there and one may argue that can’t it be eyes, nose, and blah-blah., c’mon they’re all universal in all human beings but only beard & moustache makes you distinct from others. It is told that the word “Moustache” derives its etymology from French moustache, Italian mostaccio, Medieval Greek moustakion .. In simple terms, “moustache” refers to the facial hair between the upper lip and nose while beard constitutes the hair around the whole face (excl. moustache).

Both the Moustache and beard account for the secondary sexual characters which develop primarily during puberty period where facial hair occurs first on the upper lip followed by all over the face.

Now coming to the importance of moustache and beard, with prime connection to Indian sub-continent, it has been regarded as a feature of wisdom, masculinity and also on the contrary as monstrous, ruthless etc., Even in the good olden days, punishment in the form of removing beard and moustache were given to the offenders. But that was in the past. Why not, there are reliable stories of how brawls had occurred for disrespecting the facial hairs..!! Often individuals are represented by their facial appearance rather than their characteristic approach like Hitler, Charlie Chaplin, and Wrestler HHH.

Leave aside the past, the future of B&M hangs in air. Now time and globalization have changed a lot of things. Obviously B&M will not be an exception. With schools, colleges and private firms imposing dress code with some constraints in beard, it has almost become distinct in the age group of 15-40.People started trimming their beard and moustache and in due course of time, it was converted into “nil” from “little”. The thought of people changed from “symbol of pride” to “criminal waste”. Individuals with B&M were mocked by those who didn’t have but the fact is that they’re hiding their inferiority complex by some other means…

Well... Who knows, in the near future itself, both the beard and moustache will become a show-piece In Museums for the next generation people…!!!
